ANALYSING THE CONFLICTS OF AUTHORITARIAN PARENTING IN CHIMAMANDA NGOZI ADICHIE’S AMERICANAH WITH SPECIAL REFERENCES TO DIANA BAUMRIND’S PILLAR THEORY

Abstract

Parents are the first ultimate guide or support of every child’s growth and believe. But sometimes parents facing many conflicts due to various situations, especially migrate parents have more tension between their own culture and other culture. Also, they have changed as Authoritarian parenting. This study explores the struggles of Authoritarian parenting delves with key concept of Diana Baumrind’s Pillar theory. In recent years, many children are longing to get good supportive person in their developmental period. But, some of parents have restrict their children’s sense of independence for their self-wish. These over protective and strict rules caused many psychological tensions and confusions in child’s growth especially in teenager period. This research paper analysing the tensions and conflicts between the characters Aunty Uju and her son Dike in the Novel Americanah.
