Abstract

The contribution of Indian writers to world literature is tremendous. Their works reflect themes like nationalism, religion, social realism and the like. Indian novelists have fashioned a unique style by adding Indian flavours to the English language. Indian women writers have never missed an opportunity to question the societal norms through their writing. Their works are brilliant, thought-provoking and help to understand the socio-political context. Their novels have greatly shaped the Indian women of today who challenge patriarchy everywhere. In this context, Anita Desai and Shobha De have given Indian English novel a whole new level.
