This research paper explores the barriers that hinder women’s full participation in India’s economy and examines how addressing these barriers can contribute to inclusive economic growth. Gender inequality remains a significant challenge in India, where women face various socio-cultural, educational, economic, and legal barriers that limit their access to economic opportunities. Despite efforts by the Indian government and non-governmental organizations to promote women’s empowerment, these barriers continue to impede their active participation in the workforce, entrepreneurship, and decision-making processes. This study synthesizes findings from a wide range of secondary data, including academic articles, government reports, policy documents, and publications by international organizations, to understand the key obstacles to women’s economic empowerment in India. The paper identifies critical barriers such as entrenched gender norms, unequal access to education and financial resources, limited employment opportunities, and socio-cultural expectations that confine women to traditional roles.Published
