Abstract

The world is a confluence of diverse races, cultures, languages and religions. We have all been made different so that we may learn from each other. However, unfortunately, this diversity has been the reason for several incidents of violence and terror due to human discord with himself and with Nature. Among all the diversities practised by the human kind, perhaps the most sensitive one is religious diversity. Religion is a very sensitive aspect of human identity. Religion is an instrument of peace. It inspires mankind to maintain an unwavering faith in the Almighty. Though all religions guide us along different paths, yet the destination is the same, that is self-realization and the realization of the divine power that created us. In order to prevent fanaticism, extremism and terrorism in the name of religion, it is essential to develop an education system which creates an equitable and inclusive learning ambience for the children and practices interfaith and culturally responsive pedagogy. The present article discusses the instrumental role of interfaith and culturally responsive pedagogy in inculcating peace, global harmony and respect for diversity among the children.
