Abstract

This research paper deals with the agricultural reforms and welfare schemes implemented under the leadership of Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi in Tamil Nadu. As Chief Minister, Karunanidhi gave importance to the upliftment of farmers and the development of the agricultural sector through new policies. Key initiatives like the Tamil Nadu Agricultural Labourer Fair Wages Act of 1969, the introduction of free electricity for pumpsets in 1990, and agricultural loan waivers that provided much-needed financial relief to millions of farmers. The paper highlights the establishment of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (1971), which marked a milestone in agricultural education and research, and the creation of seed testing centers and pest control research institutes that advanced agricultural practices.
