Abstract

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 marks a watershed moment in India’s educational evolution, aiming to align the nation’s academic framework with its rich civilization heritage. A pivotal element of this vision is the reintroduction and integration of the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) into mainstream education. This paper explores the historical foundations of IKS, its philosophical and interdisciplinary strengths, and how NEP 2020 aims to reclaim and rejuvenate these traditions. Through a critical analysis, the paper discusses the implementation strategies, challenges, and the broader implications of embedding IKS in education, fostering a holistic, rooted-yet-global identity for learners in 21st-century India.
