An essential component of the traditional Indian educational system that was common in ancient India is the Gurukul education system. It was a distinctive educational approach that placed a strong emphasis on character development and holistic learning. The main organization for the dissemination of Vedic knowledge—which includes the four Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, and other holy writings—was the Gurukul. Students learned by chanting, memorizing, and reciting these scriptures, which were delivered orally in an organized and disciplined way. The evolution of contemporary educational systems has been significantly influenced by Gurukul education. The incorporation of India's indigenous and traditional knowledge systems into the contemporary educational framework is emphasized in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.Published
