Abstract

In the evolving educational landscape of 21st-century India, the integration of the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) into teacher education has emerged as a cultural and pedagogical necessity. This chapter explores the philosophical foundations, conceptual framework, and educational significance of IKS, encompassing its epistemological, ontological, and axiological dimensions. Drawing on the provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the chapter explains the importance of embedding IKS in curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment to foster culturally grounded and holistic education. It outlines strategies for integration through curriculum redesign, pedagogical innovation, resource development, and teacher educator training.
