ECOLOGICAL PRACTICES AND ROLE OF TRIBAL WOMEN OF MAYURBHANJ DISTRICT IN PRESERVING TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE

This research investigates the significant contribution of tribal women to the preservation of traditional knowledge within the socio-cultural and ecological context of Mayurbhanj district, Odisha. As key caregivers, farmers, healers, and keepers of indigenous knowledge, tribal women, particularly from the Bathudi, Santhal, Ho, and Bhumij communities, are essential in sustaining and passing on information about agriculture, medicinal plants, health practices, and sustainable living. The objectives are to know the ecological practices,to know the tribal women in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha, to understand traditional knowledge of tribal women of Mayurbhanj in Odisha and to understand factors responsible for the role of tribal women in preserving traditional knowledge.The study uses qualitative research techniques, such as field observations and interviews, to show how these women protect ecological balance and community customs in the face of issues like migration, deforestation, and the impact of contemporary lifestyles. The preservation of indigenous communities' intangible cultural legacy and inclusive development depend on acknowledging the contribution of tribal women to traditional knowledge systems.Published
