The paper explores the elements of marginalization as can be found in women’s cricket in the Indian context which has a strong connection to the inherent nature of the Indian society itself where women are generally considered a marginalised group. In this case it essentially, is a kind of marginalization based on gender. This paper uses materials and data obtained from several secondary sources and relevant literature, to put forth the matter. The paper thus highlights the issue of disparity in pay structure; the opportunities provided to women cricketers as well as the issue of scant media attention towards the women’s game. The author concludes drawing upon the available information and observation that the recent changes in women’s cricket, through introduction of franchise cricket and merger of the cricket controlling authorities both at national and international level is a move in the right direction which can increase the inclusivity and visibility of the women cricketers and thus tackle the issue of marginalization effectively.Published
