Abstract

Patriarchy, deeply entrenched in societal structures, perpetuates systemic gender inequalities, leading to widespread Gender-Based Violence (GBV). GBV encompasses physical, sexual, emotional, and economic abuse, alongside harmful practices like child marriage and female genital mutilation. Rooted in patriarchal norms, GBV is exacerbated by cultural, legal, and institutional biases that marginalize women and LGBTQIA+ individuals. This chapter explores the historical, cultural, and structural underpinnings of patriarchy, its characteristics, and the multifaceted manifestations of GBV. It highlights the profound physical, psychological, and societal impacts of GBV, emphasizing the urgent need for systemic change. Solutions include legal reforms, education, community engagement, and empowering marginalized groups. Addressing GBV requires dismantling patriarchal norms, promoting gender equality, and fostering inclusive policymaking to ensure a just and equitable society.
