Abstract

The first six years of a child’s life are crucial because during this period, the maximum development of the child's brain occurs. In this time, children learn their first moves, start to think, communicate, and build relationships. This is the foundational period for all-round development, including physical and motor skills, cognition, socio-emotional-ethical growth, cultural and artistic development, and the development of communication, early language, literacy, and numeracy. Therefore, it is important to provide proper care, a stimulating and supportive environment, and positive experiences during this period. Without proper care—such as good food, healthcare, a safe environment, love, and belonging—development may be delayed, weakening their foundation for the future. While we face the impacts of climate change today, we must think about sustainable development and adopt sustainable practices as responsible citizens. Environmental literacy in early childhood is vital, as it forms the basis for lifelong habits and values. We should offer learning opportunities about nature, caring for animals, saving water, reducing waste, and planting trees to raise awareness, foster sensitivity, and promote responsibility toward Mother Nature in later life.
