IMPACT OF ILLAM THEDI KALVI MISSIONS ON ENHANCING SOCIAL SKILLS AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AMONG PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN IN DINDIGUL DISTRICT

Abstract

School Education Department, Government of Tamil Nadu has launched a new scheme namely Tamil Nadu Illam Thedi Kalvi Scheme 2021(Education at Doorstep). The scheme was started to bridge the learning gap that had arisen among students due to the closure of schools during the pandemic- induced COVID-19 lockdown and to make the students to learn joyfully and help the students to come out of the stressful family situation due to pandemic. It aims to reduce the learning gap for students from classes 1 to 8 classes of government schools under this scheme. The major objectives of the study were to find out the impact of ITK centers on enhancing social skills and academic achievements of the standard III children. 300 sample were selected by using simple random sampling technique from various parts of the Dindigul district. Social skills rating scale and academic achievement questions were used. The major findings of the study were the ITK centre enhance the social skills and academic achievement among standard III students and reduce the learning gaps of students due to COVID-19.
