Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as one of the most transformative technologies shaping the landscape of higher education in the 21st century. Its integration into teaching, learning, research, and administration has opened new avenues for innovation, efficiency, and inclusivity. From adaptive learning systems and intelligent tutoring to predictive analytics in student performance and automated administrative processes, AI offers immense opportunities to improve academic outcomes and institutional operations. At the same time, the adoption of AI in higher education presents significant challenges, including ethical concerns, data privacy risks, academic integrity issues, cost implications, and disparities in access. This chapter explores the opportunities and challenges of AI in higher education from a global perspective, drawing on current research and case studies to provide a balanced view of its potential. The discussion emphasizes the importance of responsible and ethical adoption, highlighting policy considerations, pedagogical adaptations, and capacity-building measures necessary for maximizing benefits while mitigating risks. Ultimately, the chapter argues that AI should serve as an augmentation of human potential rather than a replacement, with higher education institutions playing a critical role in shaping its future trajectory.Published
