Abstract

Harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) for assessing 21st-century skills represents a transformative approach in education, enhancing traditional assessment methods and fostering critical competencies. Higher-order abilities like critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving require individualized learning experiences and real-time feedback, which AI technologies like adaptive learning systems and automated scoring enable. Important facets of AI's function in educational evaluation are highlighted in this synthesis. Teachers can concentrate on providing individualized feedback by using AI technologies to expedite the grading process. AI technologies encourage engagement and successful learning by customizing educational experiences to each student's demands. It makes it possible to develop interactive scenarios and simulations that evaluate sophisticated cognitive skills, complicated data, give adaptive feedback, and replicate real-world issue scenarios. This chapter examines the ways in which artificial intelligence (AI)powered tools and methods, including learning analytics, natural language processing, and intelligent tutoring systems, might provide more precise, individualized, and scalable evaluations of students' higher-order abilities. It also emphasizes how AI may promote fairness by recognizing each learner's unique requirements and assisting a diverse student body. To guarantee the relevant application of AI in education, ethical aspects are also included, including concerns about equity, openness, and data privacy. In the end, incorporating AI into assessment frameworks represents a paradigm change away from rote evaluation and toward comprehensive, competency-based learning, which prepares students for the challenges of the 21stcentury.
