Abstract

The spread of e-commerce systems has revolutionized the business environments throughout the globe and India is not an exception. Digital intake and electronic dealings in the country have taken an incredible rise (Panigrahi et al., 2016). The improved movement of internet and e-commerce and greater access to smart phones has made India an e-commerce market expanding at high rate with many markets yet to be exploited (Pallivalappil and Jagadeesha, 2021). The significant change requires critical examination of the legislative matters of e-commerce comprising consumer laws to realize the adequate online marketplace (Chawla and Kumar, 2021; Kaur and Aggarwal, 2011; Singh, 2019). This chapter works through the complex legislation of e-commerce in India and established laws, and also reveals specialized areas on which one needs to work on in an effort to enhance consumer protection (Sharma et al., 2023)(Anand and M, 2022). It is especially the problems of the borderless nature of the e-sale and electronic contracts. They often lack the physical business geographical boundaries, creating an issue with jurisdiction and implementing the rights of the consumer (Saini and Bhanu, 2021). The chapter will also establish whether the contemporary Indian protection regulations of consumers can deal with the arising conditions like data privacy, security of information on online buy and cross-border settlements on the utilization of e-commerce practices in comparison with the international norms of the same.
