ENVIRONMENTALISM FROM THE GAZE OF CHIPKO AND NARMADA BACHAO MOVEMENT

Abstract

The paper focuses on the environmental movements from its inception in India. It analyses the two biggest movements in Independent India-Chipko and Narmada Bachao Andolan. This two broad movements brought the environmentalism to the forefront. This movements brought the livelihood issues interlinked with the environmental issues. The social and cultural impact of these movements and the process of mobilisation which took place during this period underline the connection between human and environment.
