Abstract

The dominance of western civilization over Indian culture is surviving circumstance for Indians. Leading a life between the instigation of western elements in a country creates a cultural clash. This paper explores the strange meeting of east and west culture brings difficulties in the life of individuals, cultural hierarchy leads to dilemmas among people and it results identity crisis. The conflicts between cultures and self-identity lead to cultural and political devastation among the natives. Kiran Desai’s The Inheritance of Loss is a well-known novel, which portrays the characters and incidents based on the cultural clash. Desai clearly prospects the sufferings of Indians, and their predicament that whether they have to grasp new culture or give up their own culture and heritage.
