ROLE OF CLIMATE FICTIONS IN PORTRAYING THE CHANGING SCENARIO OF MODERN SOCIETY

The diverse natural and anthropogenic force do play dividends on all forms of biotic and abiotic life. The discourse of climate change or climate catastrophe do occur a strong emotional attachment to people's life. The literary scholars claimed that regarding fiction helps in negotiating with difficult emotional patterns. The term ‘Climate Fiction’ is a metaphysical idea that deals with the climactic problem and to its overall consequences. It is realised that this kind of literature, i.e. Climate Fiction, is suitably helped academicians to deal with the problem of climate catastrophe that tragically effects on both cognitive and emotional paradigm. Furthermore, many multiple scholars hypnotised that climate fiction raise awareness about and inspire people to act against climate catastrophe. The cognitive term ‘Climate Fiction’ which is often abbreviated as ‘Cli-fi’ Is a genre of literature that deals with the impacts of climate change and global warming. It often explores the various scenarios and consequence of Human induced climate change, which blends with elements of science fiction, Speculative fiction and dystopian themes. The common things in Climate fiction includes environmental disasters, Societal collapse, climate refugees, and the moral and ethical implications of climate change. This genre often examines themes about how individuals and communities adopt to changing environments and the political and economic responses to climate crisis. The aim of this paper is to highlight the qualitative investigation about how climate fiction readers describes the changing role of society. And how ‘Sci Cli’ fiction raise issue of environmental changes that mitigates in modern capitalist industrialist society. And to this extent, the famous contemporary environmentalist or Sci-Cli’ fictional authors like Octavia Butler, N. K. Jemisin and Leu Cixin have brought the new perspective to this genre which ultimately enriching it with greater diversity and depth. Further the contemporary critics has commented that ‘Sci-Fi’ genre serves as mere discourses of escapism, which offers readers a way to avoid confronting real world problem by immersing them in fantastical worlds.Published
