Abstract

The study of learning and human development forms the intellectual foundation of educational psychology. It explains how individuals acquire, process, and retain knowledge, and how biological maturation, social context, and personal motivation shape that process. This chapter examines major concepts and theoretical perspectives on learning and development, integrating classical views with recent advances from cognitive neuroscience, socio-emotional research, and digital-era pedagogy. It explores how developmental readiness interacts with instructional design, how motivation and self-regulation sustain achievement, and how inclusive and technology-supported environments influence growth. By combining traditional principles with emerging evidence, the discussion underscores the teacher’s role as facilitator of both cognitive mastery and holistic development. The chapter concludes that education must balance scientific understanding of learning with humane insight into the learner’s evolving identity.
