Abstract

Participatory education where learners are active co-creators rather than passive recipients of knowledge has deep roots in critical pedagogy, democratic schooling, and community engagement. In the digital age, emergent technologies, networked infrastructures, and shifting cultural practices present both opportunities and challenges for reimagining participatory education. This chapter explores theoretical perspectives (e.g., connectivism, participatory culture, dialogic education), for participatory design in digital learning, articulates the benefits and risks, outlines typologies of participatory modes, and proposes practical frameworks for implementation in contemporary educational environments.
