Abstract

The research paper has effectively discussed the essence of surrounding environment and its impact upon the mental health of women. Women facing problems in working environment often has been subject to discrimination and harassment. It creates a sense of tension among the minds of working women, thereby affecting their mental harmony and giving rise to mental agony. Women in general fear to discuss their mental health problems, as they are stigmatised. As a result of which, being unable to express their problem, a majority of women are susceptible to mental health issues like depression. Marital – Adjustment is one of an issue which are often faced by married women. They find it quite hard to maintain a balance between both professional and personal lives. Performing multiple roles simultaneously often puts a strain on both their physical and mental well-being. Though empowering women is a positive note and contribution to the society and individual on a whole; but it has been taking a toll on the mental health of women. As failing to balance the professional and personal lives becomes quite hectic and for not being able to carry out personal duties at home, they often become victim of domestic violence and marital discord. Egoistic behaviour is often witnessed among the married working woman with their husbands. It is when the women start to earn comparatively higher than their husbands, with increasing the scope for conflicting behaviour.
