The silent treatment is a passive-aggressive pattern of emotional withdrawal that functions as a subtle yet powerful form of psychological manipulation. While often perceived as a harmless act of “cooling off,” research shows that prolonged silence can activate the same neural pathways associated with physical pain, leading to emotional distress, anxiety, and relational instability. This paper examines the silent treatment as a form of emotional aggression, explores its psychological impact, and analyzes its effects across different relational contexts, including friendships, romantic partnerships, and marriages. The findings highlight the importance of emotional communication, empathy, and conflict resolution in sustaining healthy interpersonal relationships.Published
