Abstract

Love bombing is an emotional manipulation strategy in which one partner showers another with excessive affection, attention, and admiration with the intention of creating dependency and control rather than genuine intimacy. Although it can initially appear as affectionate or romantic behaviour, love bombing often progresses into emotional abuse once the victim becomes psychologically attached. This paper explores the phases, psychological mechanisms, impacts, and relational consequences of love bombing. The paper also differentiates between love bombing and healthy affection, emphasizing the role of narcissistic tendencies and power imbalances in sustaining manipulative patterns. Finally, it highlights strategies for recognizing and protecting oneself from love bombing, along with implications for relationship education and emotional well-being among young adults.
