IoT-ENABLED PREDICTIVE MAINTENANCE OF DISTRIBUTION TRANSFORMERS

Abstract

Distribution transformers are important components in the electrical power distribution systems as they are essential in guaranteeing stability in voltage regulation and continuous power supply to the end users. Conventionally the maintenance of distribution transformers has been based on a programmed inspection and corrective measures taken on failure. The consequence of such approaches is usually unforeseen failures, higher costs of operation, power failures and shorter equipment life. As the Internet of Things (IoT) is developing at a very rapid pace, predictive maintenance has become one of the transformational solutions to enhance the reliability and efficiency of power distribution networks.
