GREEN HYDROGEN: ENGINEERING CHALLENGES AND INNOVATIONS IN CLEAN ENERGY PRODUCTION

The shift to sustainable low-carbon energy systems across the world has increased the enthusiasm of green hydrogen as a clean energy carrier. The production of green hydrogen, which is the result of electrolyzing water with the help of renewable energy sources, solar, wind, hydroelectric, and so on, provides an avenue of decarbonizing hard-to-abate industries, such as industry, transportation, and power generation. Although it has huge potential, the extensive use of green hydrogen has critical challenges in terms of engineering, economics, and infrastructure. Such issues are high production costs, energy efficiency issues, storage and transportation issues, and the provision of advanced materials and system integration. Simultaneously, high rates of technological advancements in the design of electrolyzers, renewable integration, digital control systems, and development of technologies to store hydrogen are increasing the pace in this area. This paper will critically analyze the engineering issues surrounding green hydrogen production and discuss recent advances that will be able to address these issues.Published
