SEISMIC-RESILIENT STRUCTURES: INNOVATIONS IN EARTHQUAKE-PROOF BUILDING DESIGN

Abstract

Earthquakes are defined as one of the most destructive natural catastrophes that can result in massive loss of lives, damage infrastructure, and economic destabilization all over the world. The increased vulnerability of the built environment has been due to rapid urbanization, population growth, and urbanization of the cities to seismically active regions. Conventional ways of construction are usually not able to support the seismic force and collapse of the structure becomes disastrous. As a reaction, seismic-resilient structures have become a topic of research and innovation focus in civil and structural engineering.
