Abstract

The quick penetration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into such vital areas like healthcare, finance, governance, education, and criminal justice has changed the way decisions are made and the efficiency of operations. Nevertheless, the increasing use of data-driven elaborate algorithms has presented some grave ethical issues, especially in terms of transparency, explanability, fairness, accountability, and trust. Most modern AI systems are analogous to black boxes, so users, stakeholders, and regulators do not have an easy time comprehending how such decisions are generated. Such uninterpretability not only breaks the confidence of the people but also contributes to the risk of biased, discriminatory and harmful results. One way forward to overcome the challenges of ethical AI is to incorporate moral values, regulatory compliance, and human values into the design, implementation, and governance of AI systems.
