Academic culture profoundly shapes students’ emotional experiences, psychological adjustment, and mental well-being in higher education. It encompasses explicit and implicit values, assessment systems, teaching practices, and peer norms that collectively define the learning environment. High academic pressure, grade-focused evaluations, and competitive classroom climates often heighten anxiety, fear of failure, and burnout. Faculty–student interactions, including feedback, communication style, and mentorship, significantly influence students’ confidence and emotional stability. Institutional rigidities such as heavy workloads, strict attendance policies, and inflexible deadlines can exacerbate stress and reduce autonomy, while peer culture, marked by comparison and competition, affects students’ sense of belonging. Modern digital academic culture, with online learning demands and social media pressures, further intensifies stress. Nevertheless, supportive pedagogies, collaborative learning, and meaningful mentoring foster resilience and motivation. Promoting emotionally nurturing academic spaces through faculty training, inclusive practices, and mental health–sensitive policies can balance academic rigor with holistic student well-being.Published
