Emotional well-being has emerged as a powerful predictor of teacher effectiveness, reshaping the way teacher preparation is understood across the globe. In today’s educational landscape, teaching is not defined solely by cognitive mastery or instructional expertise, but by a teacher’s ability to regulate emotions, build relationships, and cultivate psychologically safe learning spaces. As a result, emotional development is no longer a supplementary element of teacher education, but a central component of professional competency. This chapter explores emotional well-being and mental health as foundational pillars in teacher preparation, emphasizing their influence on professional identity, classroom climate, and long-term career sustainability. It examines the emotional landscape of pre-service teachers, highlighting factors such as academic stress, practicum challenges, interpersonal relationships, and institutional expectations. The discussion further analyses the critical role of Teacher Education Institutions in nurturing emotional resilience through supportive learning environments, counselling services, mentoring, reflective practices, and wellness-driven pedagogy. Evidence-based interventions and best practices are also reviewed to demonstrate how emotional competencies can be effectively embedded in the teacher education curriculum.Published
