Abstract

Roorkee has a diverse flora including various trees, shrubs, herbs, and medicinal plants. The area is known for its natural vegetation, with a mix of native and cultivated species. Roorkee is a developed urban town in the Haridwar district of the state of Uttarakhand. It lies at 29.8543° N latitude and 77.8880° E longitude. Roorkee's flora includes a wide range of plant types, such as flowering plants (angiosperms), cone-bearing plants (gymnosperms), and ferns (pteridophytes). Numerous common plant species have been identified during the area's reconnaissance, along with a number of notable plant species. A total of 272 floras belonging to 78 different families were recorded in parts of Roorkee area. The detail data analysis found eleven flora species are scarce in this area. These floras are Crataeva nurvala, Bryonopsis laciniosa, Elaeocarpus ganitrus, Peltophorum pterocarpum, Leonotis leonurus, Camphora officinarum, Bombax ceiba, Artocarpus lacucha, Putranjiva roxburghii, Cardiospermum halicacabum and Pterygota alata. These flora are belongs to eleven different family. So Plants are playing a vital component of biodiversity and healthy ecosystems. They provide a range of ecosystem services, from production of oxygen and removal of atmospheric carbon dioxide emissions, creation and provision of natural resources including food, fuel, shelter and medicine. Many plant species are threatened by habitat transformation, over-exploitation, pollution and climate change. Now need to conserving scarce plant species for preventing extinction and promoting their survival in the study area. The ex-situ conservation and promoting awareness are through education for care of listed scarce floras.
