Abstract

This paper analyses the growth and economic significance of the dairy sector in Buldhana district over the decade 2011-12 to 2021-22 using official government statistics (aakdewari). The study examines trends in milk collection and production, cooperative expansion, infrastructure development, and the sector’s contribution to rural livelihoods. A comparative analysis reveals a substantial increase in milk production, wider participation of small and marginal farmers, and improved institutional support through cooperative networks. The findings highlight the role of the dairy sector in promoting sustainable rural development by generating employment, stabilizing farm incomes, and supporting inclusive economic growth. The paper also discusses emerging challenges such as infrastructure gaps and fodder scarcity, while identifying opportunities for innovation through improved dairy practices, technology adoption, and policy support. The study contributes to multidisciplinary research by linking agricultural economics, rural development, and sustainability perspectives.
