Abstract

A novel series of thiazolidinedione derivatives were systematically designed and synthesized by incorporating pharmacologically significant furfuryl/furan amine groups. These moieties were strategically conjugated to 5'-(4'-sulfonylbenzylidene)-2, 4-thiazolidinedione through a multi-step synthetic approach. The structural integrity of the synthesized compounds was confirmed using comprehensive spectral characterization techniques. To assess their biological potential, of newly synthesized compounds were evaluated in-vitro for their antioxidant, antibacterial, and antifungal properties. The antioxidant potential was assessed using the DPPH (2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) and CUPRAC (Cupric Reducing Antioxidant Capacity) assays. Additionally, antibacterial efficacy was examined against Gram-positive bacteria (Bacillus subtilis – MTCC 1133) and Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli).MTCC 452, Pseudomonas aeruginosa – MTCC 3541). Moreover, antifungal efficacy was assessed against Candida albicans – MTCC 854. Among the synthesized derivatives, compounds Am3 and Am4 exhibited notable antioxidant, antibacterial, and antifungal activities, highlighting their potential as multifunctional bioactive agents. Making them promising candidates for further pharmacological studies.
