FILM, FILMMAKING AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence has been the talk of the town for quite a while. It has been applied and experimented at different levels and in different mediums. It started as an entity with a few mechanical applications. However, it is now gearing up to replace the human not only in terms of labour but also in terms of emotional intelligence. Artificial Intelligence is capable of producing paintings, poetry and many other creative pieces. Hence, the lives and careers of artists and litterateur are at stake. Artificial Intelligence has also made inroads into filmmaking. In this essay, I would first focus on a famous film by Steven Spielberg titled A.I. Artificial Intelligence. The visionary director managed to unravel futuristic possibilities which are now turning out to be true. I will also discuss how it is being used for various purposes related to filmmaking. It is also being used to make an entire film. I would discuss the usage of Artificial Intelligence in the process of filmmaking. Finally, I would cite a famous film movement called Dogme 95 and I would argue how we badly need a film movement of that sort to free the making of films from the clutches of Artificial Intelligence.
