Abstract

Education for Sustainable Development empowers learners of all ages to think critically, visualize alternative futures and make well concerned decisions that support environmental integrity, economic viability, and social equity. ESD inspires continuous learning, stimulate global citizenship, and boosts behavioural change to generate a sustainable society. Education plays an essential role in making a sustainable world in complex global challenges i.e. climate change and environmental degradation which leads to poverty and social inequality. The UNESCO is promoting ESD globally for achieving all Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS). Five fundamental principles of ESDare Holistic Approach, Lifelong Learning, Transformative Learning, Action Oriented and Cultural Sensitivity. Climate change is deeply affecting human societies and all life on Earth by damaging ecosystems and environmental degradation. Education plays a critical role in fostering awareness, building resilience, and empowering people to create a more sustainable future. Recognizing this, the Greening Education Partnership with UNESCO aims to transform education systems worldwide. At the turn of the 21st century, incorporating sustainable development education into teacher training programs i.e. the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) it equips future educators to inspire students to become active participants in creating a sustainable society. By implementing ESD into teacher education we ensure that sustainability becomes a lifelong learning goal, established from the earliest levels of schooling. Through initiatives several initiatives UNESCO and its partners are serving to fight the challenges of climate change and sustainability demand. Equipping teachers with the apparatus to educate for sustainability is absolutely necessary for our planet's survival.
