Abstract

According to the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), there is a strong emphasis on value education as a means to ensure the all-round development of students. The aim of this study is to examine the significance of integrating value education within India’s educational framework, its alignment with the principles of NEP 2020, and its role in shaping ethical, socially responsible, and emotionally intelligent individuals. This paper explores practical approaches to implementing value education, the challenges involved, and strategies to enhance its effectiveness in achieving the goals outlined by the policy. It underscores the need for a transformative shift in India’s education system by positioning value education as a fundamental component of holistic development. The study highlights the multi-dimensional aspects of value education as envisioned in NEP 2020 and its potential to promote cognitive, emotional, social, and ethical growth among learners. NEP 2020 perceives education not only as a means for academic excellence but also as a tool to cultivate ethical awareness, empathy, respect for diversity, and a sense of environmental responsibility. Furthermore, this research examines policy initiatives and methods for embedding human values into the curriculum, co-curricular activities, and teaching practices such as experiential learning, yoga, storytelling, and community engagement. It also evaluates the role of teacher training programs and assessment techniques in effectively promoting value education.
