TECHNOLOGY AND ITS ROLE IN WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

Abstract

In today’s world technology plays a crucial role in every walk of life influencing how we communicate, work, learn, and live. It has brought the entire world in the palm of our hands making life easier, faster and more efficient. The continuous Innovations in Technology have brought about significant impact on society by addressing various issues relating to healthcare, education, environmental sustainability and is making continuously significant contributions in these fields. However, problems like digital divide, gender discrimination and gender disparity with respect to technology still exists in society addressing to which is important and necessary to ensure equitable and positive social outcomes and progress of human society. The 2030 Agenda has envisioned building peaceful, just and inclusive societies protect human rights and promote gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. The present study attempts to study the role of technology in women empowerment so as to examine how technology is enabling women to exercise their rights fully and equally, and actively engage on equal terms in private, public, social, economic and political life by utilising technology. The study also presents various challenges of technology that might impede women empowerment and provides suggestions and strategies to overcome these challenges so that technology can facilitate and accelerate empowerment of women to create a just, equitable and progressive society.
