Abstract

The rapid social, technological, and economic changes of the 21st century have made effective change management a critical function of educational organizations. In India, the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 represents a transformative reform aimed at aligning education with contemporary global and national needs. This article examines the concept and significance of managing change in educational organizations, with specific reference to NEP 2020. It discusses key areas of reform, including curriculum and pedagogical innovation, assessment reforms, institutional governance, teacher professional development, interdisciplinary education, inclusivity, student-centered learning, and the integration of technology. Drawing on established theories of educational change and leadership, the article highlights the role of visionary and participatory leadership in addressing challenges such as resistance to change, capacity constraints, and the policy–practice gap. It concludes that sustainable implementation of NEP 2020 requires strategic, inclusive, and culturally responsive change management to ensure quality, equity, and relevance in education in the 21st century.
