EMPOWERING THROUGH ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Abstract

Across globe, in every nation there exists widespread discrimination among individuals based on their race, caste, class, gender. This discrimination results in inequal access to basic necessities of life as education, health services, employment. This discrimination is more pronounced in third world countries and mostly directed towards weaker sections. Women are victims of this discrimination worldwide causing gender-based inequality. Women empowerment is required to enhance consciousness in women about their rights and the exploitation they are being subjected to. Women empowerment has many facets one of which is economic empowerment. In this article, author tries to focus on Factors of Women Empowerment, Types of Women Empowerment, Steps of Women Empowerment. This qualitative paper draws its information from various journal articles, books, policy documents, and blog pages. Author makes an effort to discuss the concept of economic empowerment of women, the bottlenecks of achieving it and the strategies to be adopted. Author centralizes her focus on entrepreneurship as a method of economic empowerment of women. Significance of this paper is highlighted in its approach to mitigate gender discrimination by adopting economic perspective.
