Abstract

Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) encompass diverse traditional knowledge domains including Vedic literature, Ayurveda, mathematics, astronomy, art, architecture, and oral traditions. This paper explores the relevance of integrating IKS into modern library and information science practices. It examines existing frameworks, identifies challenges in cataloguing, classification, and preservation, and proposes a culturally sensitive model for managing IKS resources. Emphasizing epistemological pluralism, the paper critiques the limitations of Western classification schemes in handling indigenous content and suggests hybrid approaches tailored to the Indian context. The study also highlights the role of digital libraries and national missions in preserving India's knowledge heritage.
