Abstract

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphasizes the integration of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) into modern education, aiming to promote cultural awareness, holistic learning, and interdisciplinary research. This article explores the opportunities and challenges of integrating IKS into modern education under NEP 2020. The opportunities include preserving and promoting India's rich cultural heritage, fostering innovation and creativity, and promoting holistic development among students. However, the challenges include updating traditional knowledge to align with modern standards, addressing potential conflicts between traditional and modern approaches, and ensuring standardization and quality control. This article argues that the effective integration of IKS into modern education requires a thoughtful and multi-faceted approach, involving curriculum reform, teacher training, and infrastructure development. By understanding the opportunities and challenges, educators and policymakers can work together to develop effective strategies for integrating IKS into modern education, promoting a more nuanced understanding of India's cultural heritage and fostering innovation, creativity, and critical thinking among students.
