IKS AND DIGITAL LITERACY: OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES

The study focuses on how the Indian Knowledge System plays an important role in our day-to-day life. With the advancement of technology and scientific innovation, the Indian Knowledge System, also popularly called IKS, supports this indigenous Indian system of knowledge under the Ministry of Education. IKS Initiatives by the Government of India is focused on training future teachers and also funding several research activities focused on agriculture, astronomy, yoga, ayurveda etc. The National Education Policy (NEP, 2020) suggests utilizing IKS in modern-day educational practices, research where the knowledge will be shared from one generation to another as an organized system with the effective method of knowledge transfer. The study also focuses on how digital literacy will support the Indian Knowledge System in this online generation, where it is required to be shared on digital platforms by taking pride in Indian culture and its glorious traditions, not only as Indians but also to share and interact with the global audience on a real-time basis. The Indian Knowledge System with the help of digital media platforms focuses more on sharing such golden history of India for our future generations and also making the present generation digitally literate to understand and remember the origin of various inventions and discoveries done in the ancient period that made India a global leader around the world from the past. Digital literacy will support individuals with various opportunities to get reconnected with the vibrant heritage of India using several digital tools like social media platforms, blogs etc but will also face several challenges in the future like digital divide, online learning platforms, misinformation, disinformation, copyright challenges etc.Published
