Abstract

The Indian Knowledge System (IKS) represents one of the world’s oldest and most comprehensive traditions of wisdom, encompassing diverse domains such as philosophy, literature, mathematics, astronomy, medicine, yoga, arts, architecture, agriculture and governance. Unlike modern fragmented approaches, IKS offers a holistic integration of spiritual, scientific, and cultural knowledge. However, many of its components have been neglected or undervalued due to colonial influence, lack of preservation, and insufficient integration into modern education. This study seeks to identify, explore and analyse the major components of IKS. Using a qualitative methodology involving textual analysis, secondary literature review, the study aims to classify IKS components systematically and evaluate their contribution to sustainable living, holistic education, healthcare, and governance. The study concludes the IKS stands as a living heritage repository of wisdom that integrates the material, intellectual, ethical, and spiritual dimensions of human life.
