Abstract

The Indian Knowledge System (IKS) encompasses India’s rich heritage of philosophy, science, arts, languages, and cultural traditions, developed over millennia. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphasizes integrating IKS into modern education to foster holistic learning, cultural pride, and global relevance. It envisions blending traditional wisdom with contemporary knowledge, promoting critical thinking, creativity, and ethical values. By incorporating elements such as ancient scientific achievements, classical literature, indigenous technologies, and sustainable practices, NEP 2020 aims to nurture learners who are rooted in their cultural identity while being globally competent. This integration supports multilingualism, interdisciplinary studies, and experiential learning, ensuring that education is inclusive, innovative, and relevant to India’s socio-cultural context. Ultimately, NEP 2020 seeks to revive and strengthen IKS as a vital component of nation-building and lifelong learning.
