Sustainable education is crucial for promoting a sustainable future, yet it faces several significant challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, limited resources, and a widespread lack of awareness and engagement. The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) offers potential solutions to these issues, enhancing sustainable education by improving access to quality learning, providing personalized educational experiences, and facilitating data-driven decision-making. A key advantage of utilizing AI and information technology (IT) in sustainable education is the ability to create customized learning experiences that focus on individual students' learning styles and preferences. Additionally, AI systems can provide educators with valuable insights based on data regarding student performance, emotional well-being, and engagement levels, enabling the adaptation of teaching strategies and timely interventions. However, the adoption of AI and IT in sustainable education also presents challenges, such as concerns about privacy and data security, as well as the risk of biases in algorithms and machine learning models. Moreover, effectively implementing these systems requires significant investments in technology and infrastructure, which can be challenging for educators. This review paper seeks to present a range of perspectives from educators and IT solution architects to bridge the divide between education and AI technology. The discussion will cover the concepts and challenges of sustainable education, the scope and impact of technology, and potential research directions. By addressing these challenges and advancing research initiatives, we can fully leverage these technologies to create a more equitable and sustainable educational framework.Published
