AWARENESS ON COMPETENCY-BASED CAPACITY BUILDING AND RESEARCH SKILLS AMONG B.ED. STUDENTS

Competency-based capacity building and research skills are essential components of effective teacher education in current realm.As they enabled prospective teachers to meet contemporary classroom demands and contribute to evidence-based educational practices. The current study aimed to examine the level of awareness of competency-based capacity building and research skills among B.Ed. students. To determine the differences based on their educational qualification, background of study and the relationship between the two variables. The need for the study arised from the increasing emphasis on competency-oriented teacher preparation and the role of research skills in improvement of effective teaching and educational quality. A descriptive survey method was adopted for the study. 80 B.Ed. students were selected by simple random sampling technique. A self-constructed questionnaire was comprised 20 items utilized for data collection. The data was analysed by using of descriptive and inferential statistical (mean, standard deviation, t-test and Pearson’s product moment correlation) analysis. The results revealed that, there was no significant difference in the level of awareness of competency-based capacity building and research skills among B.Ed. students based on their educational qualification (UG with B.Ed./PG with B.Ed.) and background of study (Arts/Science). Furthermore, the present study highlighted that, the need for integration of experiential learning and practical research training in teacher education programmes to strengthen professional competencies and which may enhance societal outcomes through quality education.Published
