Abstract

Data science and artificial intelligence (AI) have become revolutionary forces in scientific research, transforming the ways in which data is gathered, examined, and converted into useful insights. By enabling the analysis of enormous datasets from wearable technology, genomic sequencing, medical imaging, and electronic health records, the combination of machine learning algorithms and advanced analytics is radically changing research approaches in the biomedical sciences and healthcare. The exponential growth of complex, multi-source health data challenges traditional research methods, requiring advanced computational techniques to extract significant patterns and produce accurate predictions. This chapter examines the basic ideas of artificial intelligence (AI) and data science, looking at how they are used in medical research and how they can help advance precision medicine and improve patient outcomes.
