Environmental Studies and Sustainability Research is an interdisciplinary domain that seeks to understand and address the growing environmental challenges arising from human activities and natural processes. Rapid urbanization, population expansion, industrialization, and climate change have increased the strain on natural ecosystems, leading to resource depletion, pollution, biodiversity loss, and heightened susceptibility to natural disasters. In order to support long-term ecological balance and sustainable development, sustainability research has arisen as a crucial discipline that combines environmental science, social sciences, economics, policy, and technology innovation. The scope, research methodologies, applications, advantages, difficulties, and most recent developments after 2020 of environmental studies and sustainability study are all covered in detail in this chapter. The importance of innovation, governance, and environmental policy in promoting sustainability transitions is given particular attention. Future research directions that are in line with international sustainability agendas—specifically, the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations—are also covered in this chapter. Environmental studies and sustainability research serve a critical role in guaranteeing environmental preservation, economic resilience, and social well-being for current and future generations by strengthening the connection between scientific information, legislative frameworks, and innovative solutions in a variety of global socioeconomic and ecological contexts.Published
