This qualitative study focuses on investigating the practical implications of gender equality in India through the aspect of the indigenous cultural realm. A sample set of 20 participants was selected who represented the gender binaries of male and female, and interviews were conducted through a semi-structured interview schedule. Interpretation of the study highlights three main thematic practices or trends. Firstly, as per the recorded responses, the social construction of specific gender roles and stereotypes is highly influenced by the biological, genetic and anatomical determinants. Secondly, the study also reflects the respondents’ understanding and expectations of the least chance of change to be brought in to practice gendered inequality. However, on the last part, the study also tries to provide a framework of proposed actions focusing on short-term reduction and long-term eradication of such strongly established gendered inequalities and disparities.Published
