Abstract

The Indian gender roles traditionalism has been heavily grounded in the patriarchy, in which males are the breadwinners and females are the caregivers. But, due to the fast socio-economic changes, urbanization, and participation of more women in the workforce, the roles are redefined. This paper examines the case of househusbands and working mothers in West Bengal and investigates the economic, social and cultural issues that have led to this change. Using an extensive literature review and the analysis of empirical data, the study provides the identification of significant trending patterns, challenges, and perceptions of society related to these changing roles.
